Exploring New Frontiers: India Africa Services Sector collaboration

6 – 8 April 2021: CII Digital Platform

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing SERV Africa : Exploring New Frontiers: India-Africa Services Sector collaboration from 6 - 8 April 2021 on Virtual Platform. This Summit aims to broaden the understanding of Services trade for Africa and discuss the emerging opportunities to collaborate in Indian Services Industry.

Indian service exports stood at USD 167.89 bn while imports stood at USD 85 bn in April – Dec 2020 despite the pandemic. Indian Services Industry contribution is almost 60 % to the GDP.

The services economy in Africa is a vital source of income and employment. In some countries, as much as two thirds of the workforce is engaged in services. Overall, the services sector in Africa accounted for one third of formal employment during 2009–2012; including the informal sector would greatly increase this figure. Furthermore, as Africa’s middle class continues to grow, and given current population and urbanization trends (Africa’s population is forecast to double by 2025), this sector is expected to expand.

CII Serv Africa Summit aims to bring together key stakeholders from the African countries, Indian Government, industry as well as Internationally renowned experts on one platform to navigate a successful growth path for promoting services trade between Indian and Africa.

Key objectives are:

ü  Understand Africa's needs in the service sector.

ü  To showcase Indian Industry's expertise and explore business linkages and discuss Africa's local trends in the Services industry.

ü  Discuss the regulatory hurdles that prevent the emergence of a services-led transformation as observed in some other regions of the world.

ü  Policies and actions needed to strengthen Africa’s services sector and increase the continent’s participation in services trade

ü  To understand how AFCFTA will plug into India and Africa business relations

ü  To share experiences of select Indian companies, doing successful business in Africa or have interest to do business with the country.
